I’m Sorry, I Can’t Make It. My Uncle’s Hamster Has Passed and I Am Reading the Eulogy at the Funeral is a sharp, tender comedy about loneliness, expectations, and the messy negotiations of adult friendship.
On the night of her first major movie premiere, rising actress Lili hires a “platonic escort” to accompany her after her best friend bails at the last minute. What begins as a transactional arrangement slowly turns into an unexpectedly honest conversation between two strangers, exposing insecurities, unmet needs, and the quiet grief of wanting people to show up for you. Blending humor with vulnerability, the play explores what friendship looks like in a culture obsessed with success, productivity, and appearances — and asks how we care for each other when everyone is running on empty.
